Celtics legend provides update after gruesome finger injury
Paul Pierce. Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Retired Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce was hospitalized on Friday after suffering a gruesome injury that resulted in broken bones and a significant loss of blood.

Pierce posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating that he had undergone successful surgery to repair the damage.

In a separate post on Instagram, Pierce shared extremely graphic images of the injury before surgery and revealed that he had dropped a weight on his hand while working out.

“Surgery went well,” Pierce said. “Should be good in [about] three weeks but it’s all good. . . I had dropped a weight on it in the weight room, that’s why it’s split open. But everything is good. I appreciate y’all being concerned, though.”

A three-week recovery time seems minimal given how bad the injury appeared, but that’s obviously good news for Pierce, who remains in good spirits.
